hi there all, im a new user to the forum and am looking forward to hopefully some helpful information from a network of experienced peoples, as apose to a bunch of not so useful loser tech supports who dont know their ass from their elbow!

so onto the pressing problems... having recently aquired FC3 im finding one major problem, in that i can render a 'selection' no problem, however when i attempt to 'render all' and there a few things to be done, it just suddenly automatically quits! kaput! disapears?? quite annoying as you can imagine. i was thinking there may be something with the settings that i need to tweak? any ideas? shouldnt be a memory/cpu issue at all. im working on a dual1.42 in OSX

also the other question which i am sure has been gone through all before, but i could not find a specific similar question in this forum.. What is the best (reasonably affordable ie:under$100) programme to convert Pal and ntsc footage. I own a PAL dv camera and live in the states. I need it for showing proffesional work, and have heard not so good things about the quality of quicktime, or other cheap alternatives. does after effects do the job??

thanks for the help everyone. appreciate any response.

What OS are you running FCP on? Is the crash totally consistent, or is it only some of the time? What sort of hard drive are you scratching your render files to?

FCP 3 is totally capable of doing the PAL to NTSC conversion. Just set your timeline to be NTSC format and then render the PAL clips that you put in it. I can't remember exactly how it does the conversion, you might have to compensate for some distortion before you do the render.

well whatdya know.. of course things start working now. must have heard me asking about its problems, or wanted to 'settle in'. it was totally consistant before, i gave it about a dozen attempts. i was scratching the render files just to built in hard drive for the dual 1.42g and using osx 10.2.6 then before the the render screen percentage moved from 0 it crashed and closed. but all seems to be fine now after giving it a few more tests, so smiles alround. if the problem happens again ill get back here.

i think i worked out the ntsc conversion in the sequence settings also. ill have to give it a try to see the end quality viewing result.

one last question i forgot to mention.. when i am capturing video i can not get any sound while capturing. it captures the audio fine when i play back the clip, however i can not hear the audio WHILE capturing. i used the original FC years ago and thought i remember this not being an issue?? can you listen to the audio while capturing?

thanks again.
