My set-up: Cable to TV Converter Box (brand new from radioshack with RCA Video/Audio outs) to Dazzle Hollywood DV-Bridge to Mac, dual G4 450MHz with internal Pioneer A05, via Firewire. What I'd like to do is to record in a format so that I do not have to process the file for hours before saving it to TV friendly DVD format. I'm thinking of using BTV. Is this even possible? What's the magic format?

Thanks for your help

Dazzle outputs DV. DVD is MPEG-2. you have to convert somehow. it takes time. You might consider a set-top DVD-Recorder; they work just like a VCR (I assume)

What format should I record in, what should I use to encode it to dvd friendly format, and what should I use to finally record to DVD. I've read about so many little shareware progs, ffMEPEGX, BitVice, Sizzle, etc. I wish someone would write a definitive guide/FAQ.

Still looking for support

What exactly are you trying to do? Rip your own TV episodes? How important is really great quality? I think a far better option for this would be to return your new stuff, and get an EyeTV. (www.elgato.com) you will find instructions on their website on how to get the mpeg-1 files onto a DVD, and you will also get your own Tivo

The Elgato support/trouble shooting pages provide all the answers I think I need. I know there are different setups I could use, but the Dazzle provides me an easy way to get older video formats, i.e. VHS and Video 8 into my mac. The cable converter works well and will allow me to watch TV on a digital projector once I get one of those.

Peace
