mpeg 1? double click it. quicktime should be able to view it. unless there's something weird with it, then try this:

You should be able to view them just by opening with QT Player, which is on all Macs. Some mpegs are not made to standard and QT Player may refuse to open those. If you are using OS X you could try viewing problem mpegs with VideoLanClient, a freeware you can find via VersionTracker.

if it's mpeg 2, then to play it in quicktime you need to buy an extra decoder from apple. vlc probably will play it, though I've never tried since I have the apple decoder.
