These are the steps I'm following to create VCDs from [DivX]avi movies (taken from tgpo's
website: http://homepage.mac.com/tgpo/divx.html)

Tools needed:
1. DiVX Doctor II - Mac Divx Convertor
2. 3ivx Codec - Mac Divx Codec
3. Quicktime Pro
4. Roxio Toast Titanium

Step 1:
Open DiVX Doctor. Click File Add Avi. Double-click on your Divx encoded movie. Make sure Make Stand-Alone Movies is checked. Click Start. After a few min. it should create a .mov file.

Step 2:
Open Quicktime Pro. Open your newly created mov movie. Using the small triangles under the status bar select about the first half of the movie. Then click edit, cut. Then File, New window. Then edit, paste. You should now have two windows each with half the movie. Next click File, export. Export as a Toast Ready Video Disk.

Step 3:
Once both movies are encoded as mpeg files close Quicktime Pro and open Toast. Under the other button choose Video CD. Click and drag one of the mpeg files and burn. Then burn the other file. And Enjoy!

The problem is Step 2, exporting from Quicktime Pro as Toast Ready Video Disk. The export has taken 24 hours so far on a 300MB file! Does this sound normal? I'm running a 700mhz eMac with 640MB RAM, OS 10.2.6. Is there a better way to do this?

Toast VCD compressing is notoriously slow. At least in my experience.

Alot faster than the one that comes with Cleaner tho.

Try ffmpeg, it might run better with G4 and altivec.

With the new Toast 6, you will be able to drag your Divx movie Toast and burn as a VCD. The encoding in 6 is said to be much faster.
