Where else do codecs hide?

I'm rebuilding my computer (new Dualie G4 thank you very much) and I'm having trouble with MPEG2 movies.
I have QT 6.3 Pro and the MPEG2 component installed but it still won't play a couple MPEG2 movies I have.
I have an iBook that has no problems. I have the same components in the two places I know that uses them and yet the iBook has no problems and the G4 does.
The two places I know of are:
Computer/Library/Quicktime folder
and
User/Library/Quicktime folder
Is there another place that I'm missing? Or could it be another problem? I could give a list of the components I have installed if need be.

there's also /System/Library/QuickTime
(and in the future you could search your drive for ".component")
I had an issue once where I neglected to update the mpeg2 compontent on my tower, and now the update cannot be found (but I don't really want it installed anyway). But it was confusing that I had the old component there, but it was not working

Ok, I missed that one.
But...now I have all the same components in the same 3 places with the same applications on both machines. Yet, it still doesn't play MPEG2 movies on the new system.
Any idea?

Yeah, very odd huh?
I'll double check everything again. I just can't think of a reason I've missed.
Thanks for your help. I'll post if I can figure it out.
Edited Note: I just downloaded VLC and it'll play through that. Also, it plays regular movie DVD's (those are MPEG2 aren't they?). Does that mean maybe my QT MPEG2 component is corrupted?
