I have a Sony Digital Handycam DCR-TRV11, I connected it to my iMac G4, using FireWire of course, but the computer says there is no camera connected. I've had the same problem with my PC. Some help, please?

That model is on Apple's list of compatible camcorders, so the problem lies elsewhere. What software are you using, and which version? Sometimes it helps to just quit and reopen the software, or restart the camera, or reboot.

Test your FW port with some other FW device if you can.

Also make sure the FW cable is plugged into the camera and the camera is powered on and in the correct mode. Sometimes we overlook the simplest things.

If all that fails, I would search the Apple support boards.

When I first got my MiniDV camera, it worked fine. I unplugged it and later tried to use it, but kept getting the "no camera connected" message. Turns out my Firewire port just died. I was able to get it working again by resetting the nvram.

The procedure I used:

1) Shutdown
2) Unplug all but mouse & keyboard & monitor
3) Startup
4) Hold Apple-Option-O-F
5) At prompt type: reset-nvram (hit return) - It will say OK
6) At prompt type: reset-all - It will say OK
Shutdown
Attach all cables and restart

Everything worked fine after that.

This page might help in case that does nothing.

I had a similar problem with imovie and a Sony PC-120.
The problem wast that I hd the camera on Video In-Mode to record from a analog source(VHS). In imovie it sais that there is no cammea conected. In Adobe Premiere it works.
