I have 30 gigs of Mp3s.

After backing them up to DVD Data would like to convert them to Mp4 in the interest of saving space.

Am I missing something or does itunes only encode off CDs?

Posting in the lounge and Dig Video/Audio.

You can do it, but you will thoroughly suckify the sound quality. If you really need to save the space then you should re-rip your songs from the CDs. Converting from one compressed format to another is wack.

Yeah, don't do it. The space you might save will be more than made up for by the incredible loss of sound quality resulting from such a conversion.

I don't know what kind of Mac you have, but these days hard drives are so cheap that it's easier to just get another/bigger one than convert 30 gigs of any kind of file.
