bad transitions in iMovie 3

I've got a project started in iM3.0.3; the only problem is that the transitions are crap; the image is fine, but the sound is really screwy: fade ins go about half volume, only to jump to full volume when the transition ends.
Exporting to iDVD didn't solve anything.
If I edit in iM2, everything is perfect;
I've fixed permissions and got QT 6.3,
I do need to add chapter marks, hence the reason I need iM3.
Anyone got a fix for this bad, bad problem?

I hate to ask the obvious, but have you looked at the volume levels of the clips before applying the fades? (go to timeline, and click "edit volume".) Sometimes the volume levels get goofy for no apparent reason, and need to be manually set.
Other than that, I'm afraid I don't have any other ideas.

I was about to post this workaround from macintouch.com when I realized that you're probably the same person. But just for everyone's sake:
http://www.macintouch.com/imovie3.html#sep11
Myself, I've had problems with audio in iMovie2 - sometimes when I put a fade on a track, I can't remove it. The workaround is to go into the audio dialogue box and manually move the fade slider to "0". I've also had occasions where a fade applied to one track will show up in other tracks. Frustrating, but the workaround is pretty easy.
My initial experience with iMovie3 was so bad that I went back to iMovie2, which (apart from the aforementioned) works flawlessly for me. I know that 3.0.3 solved a lot of problems but I'll probably wait for iMovie 3.0.4 before I use it again.
Glad you found a solution.

I did try to see if I could adjust it, even boosting to 150% at the end, but it still wouldn't sound right.
Plus I think it got progressively worse as I switched back and forth between 2 & 3, which, of course, I wouldn't have needed to do if 3 had worked right in the first place!
(for the record, iM2 had been overwritten by 3 when I upgraded to 3 - 2 didn't exist when I imported the clips from the camera)

It should be on MacOSXhints soon too.
