do-able?
i'm running imovie in os10.2.6, and it's pretty sluggish on a G3/400.

will final cut pro work on this? or is a G4 processor essential?

thanx!

Hello,

Yeah I have a G3 imac 400mhz and the imovie playback and export can run juddery sometimes. I have just started using imovie and have found this out.

I use OSX 10.2.8 , with the RAM at around 1000k (maxed out)

The video is juddery an would appreciate some info - such as

Should I be using OS9 ?, and whats that program called for OS9 movie editing ?

what causes the judder , lack of processor power for the osx with imovie ?

Thanks,

I was unable to install Final Cut Pro 4 on a 500 mhz G3 iBook.

I think you need to check, I think FCP4 may ONLY work with G4 and G5 chips?

http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/specs.html

FCP 4 requires a 350mhz G4 processor, at the least.

Soundtrack (which comes with FCP4) requires a 500mhz or dual-450mhz.

Final Cut Express needs a G3 running @ 300mhz, but you need to run at least 10.2.

Depending on you needs, I'd find a used version of FCP2 or 3 or use FCE and upgrade to OSX.

If you can find it, you can use iMovie2 for OS9, apply all memory to it, and you should be fine. I've used iMovie3 on my iMacDV/400/512MB, and the interface can be a bit unresponsive.
