OK, well with the soon to be delivered powerbook, and me being on the road alot I would like to be able to bring some movies with me to watch on the road, train, plane, or in motels or at my GFs house. I do not want to rip em to my machine becuase I only have 60 gigs to work with on my PB and need that space for work stuff (my desktop is another story ). Now I was wondering if any one has tried the two of these size minimizing dvd disk apps. I am looking for speed and quality. I am testing out "Remaster" now but was wondering if any one had any personal experience to share with either app. I am sorry of this isn't allowed being its ripping of DVDs, but its dvds I already own and see no wrong doing just becuase I would like to leave the originals at home. Thanx for any stories/advice peps have.

have you tried out DVDRemaster? they say it's faster than DVD2OneX. i haven't tried Remaster yet, but i do use DVD2OneX. it works great. quality is very good. the interface was a bit tricky for me at first, the first disc i burned had no audio, because i forgot to select it...but that was just oversight on my part.
looking at the tutorial on Remaster, it seems just a tad more complicated than DVD2One. i see that it has 2 modules to compress: M2VRequantizer and M2VDownsizer. i'm not sure what type of compresson (or similar compression techniques) DVD2OneX uses. from their speed tests, they say that DVDRemaster (using the M2VDownsizer recompression, which they say yields better results at the cost of time) is just about twice as fast as DVD2OneX. so a question that might be asked: "since DVD2OneX take longer (compared to the best recompression setting of Remaster), does DVD2OneX yield higher quality results?" i don't know, i'll have to try them out side by side, with good footage to try it on.
if you've tried out DVDRemaster, how do you feel about the results? i'd be interested to hear.

ok, well i tried out "remaster" last night. I did Fellowship of the ring since I am giving my copy to my girlfirend ( gonan get the extended version) and I am very impressed. Not sure how long it took scince I went to bed, but it was done when I woke up got the entire dvd down to 4.3 gigs, was 7.3. It coppied all the menues, subtitles, etc. I did Normal compression with the M2VDownsizer encoder. All I wish this app had was a progressbar, it tells you whats its doing but doesn't let you know how long till ts done. But its deff worth checking out. I have played with "2One" and rembered it cut alot of stuff out like alternative languages, subtitles etc to get it on 1 disc.

that's weird. you can choose what subtitles and audio tracks to cut out, with dvd2one. i've used it to backup several DVDs and the backups have had all the features of the originals..
