i use quicktime pro frequently to edit video and process video, to throw up on a web server. i am often taking very long clips (3 hours) and chopping them up into manageable chunks. however, when i set the in and out points using the drag method, and then copy that in between space to a new movie, my in and out points are not as precise as i would like them. i frequently find myself going back into the copied clip and trimming the points even more.

i wonder if there is a way to get more precise in/out points, or have the in/out points coincide (snap to) exactly with the frame counter or running counter?

does anyone have any ideas?

Using the right and left arrow keys will advance the selection frame by frame, as long as you hold down the Shift key. Actually, you can also back up with the left arrow if you go too far. The MovieProperties/Movie/Time window should show the duration of your selection as you make it bigger (or smaller.) It reports in 1/30s of a second, though if will jump a bit if the frame rate is lower than that.

command b zeros the selection on the playhead. I use this method several times a day. go to the "in" point, zero, drag to beginning and clear (delete key), go to the "out" point, zero, drag to the beginning, copy, new paste, etc. If I want to cut something from the middle, it's harder, and I find it's easier to just take the pieces I want to keep and put them in a new document
