The church I attend currently tapes the services on a regular cassette deck. They want to be able to put the recordings on CDs and also post the sermons to a web site.
I have played around with some shareware tools and a cassette deck, and I can convert the tapes to MP3s and burn a CD. It seems to me however, the the better solution is to take the feed off the sound board and record it directly to the Mac. I'd then like to put a standard intro and closing on the recording, and put it to the CD with different parts of the service on different tracks. That way, if you want to jump to the sermon, you can just jump to the right track.
We have some money to spend, but a ProTools set up would be out of the question
Anyone done anything like this? What tools (software) did you use? What issues did you have? What would you do different?
Any input would be appreciated! Thanks

since all you'll be doing is recording your existing soundboard feed, you'll have no need for any post mixing.
what you want to accomplish can be achieved with a simple audio editor. some macs come with "sound studio" pre-installed, which would be ideal.
if you don't have this, try audacity from http://audacity.sourceforge.net . it's free, and instructions on splitting up the tracks etc are on its website.

I'd definitely check out Bias Peak.
http://www.bias-inc.com/
It is feature rich, and if you have a little money to spend it will definitely make things easier for you in the long run.

Is this the best kept secret in audio editing or something? How come I've not heard of it before? I look at your link and it looks awsome especially for a free program I can't wait to go download it and try it out when i get home.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have played with audacity already. It is what I used to convert the tapes to MP3s. I'll check their site for the instructions you mentioned. I'll also have a look at Spark ME tonight.
I assume that Toast would be the tool for mastering the CD? I've not done much beyond iTunes and Disk Burner, but It woudl seem that Toast is the CD tool of choice for the Mac.
