I just found out that I should "mixdown audio"...is that any different than "rendering timeline"? Should I do both?

What are some other steps I should take before I consider it finished? Any little tricks? Anything obvious that I shouldn't overlook?

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

What is the final destination of your project?

Your procedure will vary depending on what medium your project will wind up on i.e. dvd, web etc..

Yeah then you absolutely want to mix the audio down to a seperate file as dvds are based on two seperate streams A+V.

Say for instance you are working in DVD Studio Pro- you will need audio files along with your MPG2 video streams. Both files need match exactly in length. When you are ripping the video to MPG2 you'll want to make sure to check the bitrate vs. final file size. Since we are burning to DVD 5 we only have 4.4gb total to work with, you want the bitrate as high as possible, but if you're project runs much over an hour 15+ you'll want to start watching it, and likely reduce it according to length.

Cool, thanks!

As for video, is there anything I should do before or after the final render?

It depends if your going to use DVD Studio Pro, or iDVD, or something else. With DVD Studio Pro, you will need to compress your video into MPEG-2, I don't think you need to do that with iDVD.
