Back in the early nineties I had a small home (audio) studio that I controlled with a PC laptop. Now that I've got my G5, I'm looking into what it would take to get started on that hobby again. I've got a nice Kurzweil PC88 synth/controller left over from those days, but not much else.

So, I'd like to incorporate software based sequencing and additional software-based synthesizer/sampling software. I'd rather not buy more rack units. I want to be able to sequence and record audio from the software synths as well as the external PC88.

Should I be looking at something like Logic (the lower end version)? What kind of midi interface should I get? What's the best way to capture audio from the PC88? I see a lot of material on the web, but it's a bit overwhelming, and I'm having trouble picking a starting point that (1) makes sense, and (2) doesn't cost a huge fortune.

Suggestions? Thanks!

I'm using Cubase and Native Instrument software at the moment and love it.

If you dont have much outboard midi gear don't worry about the midi interface too much. I'm using a MidiMan MidiSport 8x8 and it's perfect, was really cheap and does everything. They have smaller versions that are even cheaper though if you need fewer ports.

Software synths are sweet, check out absynth 2. If you want to record your keyboard, cubase will do the trick- recorder+sequencer. Just run your keyboard outs into the mini jacks on your G5- or if you like it digital buy a tos link interface.
