I have a Canon S400. I recently took a bunch of photos with a few movie clips mixed in, which I assume are in MPEG format?
Anyhoo, when I plug the camera into my iMac 17" through USB, iPhoto opens and I can import the photos. The movie clips are not recognized however.
Anyone know how I go about getting the movie clips into my Mac?
Thanks,
Mike

The movies are AVIs, and with my s230, if I recall correctly, I used Image Capture (Applications/Image Capture) to pull them over.
The movies play fine in QT.

Just tried that, and it worked like a charm. Thanks very much for the assistance.

I tried that. The camera doesn't show up in the Finder. I have read in other posts that while this is possible with certain cameras, such as the Nikons, it is not with the Canons.

I use a Fuji and after I down load my pix to iPhoto, I double click the camera device icon on the desktop. That opens a window with a Fuji icon. I open it and it shows all the avi files. I just drag them to a folder on the dock. What is image capture? Is it part of OSX or is it some shareware plugin? Sorry if that is such a novice question.

Image Capture was on my iMac, so it must be part of OS X.
The Canon came with software, which would likely provide similar functionality to what you have with the Fuji. However, I wanted to avoid installing any additional software if possible.
Therefore, the Image Capture lets me see all the contents of my Canon's CF card without resorting to the Canon software. For photos, as soon as I plug it in the USB port, iPhoto opens. So it is only for the AVI clips that I need to use Image Capture.
