avi/divx to dvd w/ idvd?

ok i've got a superdrive, and i'm wondering if theres someway i could use idvd to create dvds of some divxxvid avi files i have
i'm a newbie at this so go easy on me

technically yes, but you won't like the result. iDVD(2 and up) has a limit of 90 minutes. Also it forces a 4:3 aspect ratio (you can add black bars in QTPro, but black bars suck, especially if you have a widescreen tv).

I don't know of any good ways to encode MPEG-2 from MPEG-4 (lookalikes). That's one reason I got a video card with TV-out instead of a set top DVD player
