.ape loseless audio format - any luck?

Anybody having any luck with the loseless audio format .ape?

I've only run into .ape files once, there is no mac solution to my knowledge so i had to copy it over to my PC (a 233 Pentium) and after a few hours of downloading apps I was able to get the album split and converted to wav and from that to mp3 and back onto my mac.
Luckly it was a good album so it was worth it (Illusion by Soulstice).
