Does anyone know if OSX Panther can connect and send audio to a Pioneer AV Amp over iLink (aka IEEE 1394, Firewire) Here is a link to the Pioneer page:

Pioneer

I would like to send audio from both iTunes and the DVD player for decoding.

Thanks Again For Any Data...

What does PCM stand for?

I will also try and test this weekend. I will take my Portable into the shop.

Linear Pulse Code Modulation (lpcm)

Conversion of analog signals to pulse signals without compression. Linear PCM is used as a coding system for the sound of music CDs and DVD discs. DVD discs in NTSC format has been standardized to adopt audio data either in Dolby Digital (5.1 channels maximum) or in Linear PCM (non-compressed digital audio). Audio is recorded to music CDs at the sampling frequency of 44.1KHz with the quantization of 16 bits, and at the sampling frequency of 96KHz (the highest audio spec) with the quantization of 24 bits when audio is recorded to DVD discs.

needless to say if the receiver is to do something with the audio it at the very least must be a pcm signal.

the only way i see that computer sending a pcm signal to the receiver from music file or vob file (dvd) is having a software program which while the stream is playing reencoding it then streaming that through the 1394 making sure it was encoding it as a pcm and i'm not sure if that data the pioneer is intended to receive has to be encapsulated some how seperate from just a pcm, i haven't studied the issue much but looks interesting. as far i know i think all those electronics people have agreed to some standard on the data transmission through 1394, at least i hope so.
