I can suck the files off my replaytv with dvarchive, but toast et al don't like the unit's format, and toast 6 and DiVA fail to encode it differently.

MacReplayTV says it takes care of this, but its requirements lists a bunch of other apps and codecs that are expensive.

I'm just trying to archive a couple of shows.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

can you elaborate?

also, could you maybe post 5 or 10 MB of one of these files for me to play around with?

I'll try to elaborate. Using DVArchive, I access my replaytv and can then copy a recorded show to my hard drive. the replaytv records in a slightly altered mpeg-2 format. I don't know how it's altered, but it is. I drop it in toast 6 to make it into a VCD, but it fails.

The more I research this on other replaytv-specific boards, the more I see that there is no elegant, hassle-free solution.

I'd post a video file, but I'm on dial-up, and I'd probably get kicked after 4.8 MB.

Thanks for your willingness to help, however.

Can you play it with VLC? If so, you can dump it to a file in any codec that it will encode, including mpeg2 or vcd.
