I'm looking for a good source of info for a complete beginner. To be honest I don't really know where to start. It would have to be pretty basic. I'm neither a techie or a musician. But don't worry, I have a perfectly good reason for getting into it. A girl!! Thanks in advance for any help.

LOL!

hey, that's a good enough reason for anyone. in fact, i'm sure that's why 80% of the people out there get into music.

maybe you should say what kinds of things you want to do, and what instruments you want to use, etc.

Well, admittedly the girl is my wife, but I'm pretty sure I still need to impress her. She's a classical musician (violist, no not violinist), and recently she's started playing in a rock band. We have a keyboard at home and I think for starters I'd like to be able to work with things the bands already recorded and do stuff with the keyboard. Eventually I'd like to have som recording equipment but I'd like to start small.

You still on os 9 ? (not classic)

You could always download Protools free from digidesign.com.

Its an 8 track audio recording-editing-mixing program. More than enough for a beginner to mess around with.

Otherwise, theres the usual suspects (DAWs-Sequencers you might want to look into.)

Logic Audio
Cubase SX
Protools LE
Digital Performer

Id say those are the main ones for Mac at the moment.

Theres other cool programs as well, such as REASON, but they arent intended to record audio with.

I'm also looking for any paper (i.e. book) resources that might give me a heads up on the terms and set up of both recording equipment and computer setups.
