Hi Guys. I went through a years list of searches on the msg board. Couldn't find anything on converting Divx, Xvid, to MPEG for VCD playback on a stand alone DVD player. Please if anyone has the scooop on software that can do this leave a detailed msg with links. Thank You and Happy Turkey Day!

There are two issues; conversion of file to mpeg-1 at the VCD standards and 2) Burning the result to a CD. The only application I am aware of that will do both is Toast Titanium 5 or 6 by Roxio. There are apps for OS X, like the ffmpeg port, that will create mpeg-1 meeting the standard and there are other apps like VCD Builder that will build the proper datastructure but Toast is the only one that I am aware of that will make the mpeg, create the datastructure and finally burn all that to CD. Of course, you first need codecs like the ones from either divx.com or 3ivx.com to convert a Divx or Xvid to a file that QT will understand. Once you have that you can use the Toast mpeg Plugin for QT to create the mpeg and the Other menu in the CD burning part of Toast to actually burn the VCD. Finally, you do need a DVD player that will play the VCD. Not all models of all players work. I have a relative with models 1600, 1700 and 1800 Tosheba DVD Players and only the 1800 plays VCD files.
