Hi,

I was wondering what the best solution is when using iMovie, FCP or any other application to capture the DateTime stamp when capturing video from firewire.

I edit home videos and use the datetime that is was captured for titling the clips. Is there a solution on the mac?

I used to use scenalyzer on the pc which would capture each clip and name it based on the timedate stamp. This made it easy for me to create the titles based on the name of the avi file.

Can anyone advise me on this.

I believe the firewire standard does require that the dv device send this information across the cable. I believe FCP does not use this information.

I am sure I am not the only home video enthusiast that would want this?

Thanks

Apple + i brings up the import dialogue for me?

I am looking for the data i took the video sequence, NOT the date I captured the digital video onto the computer from the dv device?

Is this still possible.

Many thanks

Select a clip first, then apple+i (or Get Info from the File menu). Unless a clip is selected, the option isn't available:

sorry, i'm using apple for too long, i forget, on other systems you have to act different :-)

select a clip means:
in imovie on the right hand side, you see all your imported clips, right? now, use your mouse to double-click on one of these "slides"=clips. or, click once, so the "slide" gets a blue border (which means "hey, i'm a happy selected clip") and then press BOTH keys, the one with an apple on it and the letter i on your keyboard.

sorry, i don't want to treat you like an 8 years old - but, user interface (an discribing it!) is everywhere a lil different...- ;-)

remember: an apple an a day wipes your sorrows away

But how do I do it with FCP4, or is this not possible.

I have gone to item properties where it shows me when I last modified the clip, and when I captured it onto the harddrive, but not when the video camera captured the footage.

Sorry to keep asking questions?

Is there a solution using FCP4, or even the finder?

Thanks

I have a related question. Is there a way so that the time stamp is in the video (if burning on DVD) like when you reply the video from the camcorder directly to the TV? When watching my home movies on DVD, I'd like to have the time stamp showing, or if I send copies of DVD's to family, they'll be able to tell what date the video was taken.

Why not just make a nice title screen in iMovie with the date on it. Use the one with the colored bar across the bottom and add the date and times yourself. It will look a lot cooler than the goofy time stamp look.
