I just read that AppleCare told a poster that iMovie films were limited to 10 mins length and if you wanted anything longer you used Final Cut Pro Express. This the case?
Thanks.

No..you can go at least to an hour.

EDIT:

Are you talking about importing clips that are longer than 10 minutes, or the length of the imovie project itself? (I assumed you were talking about the length of the entire project and I have several imovie projects that are about about 45 minutes each).

iMovie is limited to working with 2GB-or-less files, which is about 9min 32sec of DV. You can string many of these files together, but while importing you have to divide your movie into sections shorter than that.

iMovie is doing that on its own, if you import by a camcorder. matrial form, e.g. an formac digitizer (really BID .dv streams, 30Gigs and more), has to be divied into 2Gb chunks by hand, qt pro is easy…

the limitation is just your hd

and: iMovie3 is not good inhandling BIG projects, let's say 2h …

and: if you plan to export your finished projetcs, remember, that iDVD is limited to 60min/good quality, 90min/cheapo
