if you can open it in QuickTime Player Pro, just choose Save from the File Menu. If it's AVI and you can't hear the audio, try Divx Doctor. If it's MPEG, DiVA, if it's WMV or ASF, try ffmpeg (to go to avi, from which see above) or DiVA (which uses ffmpeg to decode)

Is there any simpler, all-in one app to do this?

I just said it, QTPro. All in one. If you install the components from divx.com, 3ivx.com, insaneness.com and flip4mac.com, QTPro should be able to open anything short of ogm/mkv (which are not common). For RM you'll have to go to Windows (eo-video.com) or screen capture (just use the windows apps; screen capture sucks for converting videos).

You can also try ffmpegX (though to be honest I've never tried converting anything to mov with it).
