I'm trying to create quicktime streams for a university. I'm open to using any tool, but so far I've been using Cleaner and Quicktime Pro and trying to use the MPEG4 codec, but I've tried Sorensen as well. We're basically trying to distribute our media center videos over the network, so we'd like them to be as close to the original as possible.
Any time I create something at 640x480 the stream looks awful. The first time this happened, I assumed that the data rate was just too low, so I pushed it up to around 200kb/sec in Cleaner (and later in Quicktime Pro) but it doesn't look any better. And when I get info on the file in Quicktime, the data rate is nowhere near 200...no matter what I choose in the encode options I always get something around 45k. However when I create streams at 320x240, the look much better (and have a higher data rate...around 90k). In fact, taking the 320 file and just watching it at 200% looks better than the actual file. Any thoughts on what could be throttling my data rates?
Any advice is appreciated.
