Hey Guys! I have serious problem on my hands. I was using my headphones with my Powerbook G4 and the headphone plug broke off inside the the Powerbooks headphone plug in! It was already somewhat loose I guess and when I set it down on the couch and turned it against the grain it came off! Its the last part of the jack and its in about 3/4ths of an inch deep! To top it all off I just got a new pair of Yamaha speakers from Amazon. Oh mama, any advice would be great. So far I've tried a vacuum hose with a straw duck taped on the end (to focus the suckage), and now I'm thinking about putting a toothpick in the hole with some super glue on the end?!

where is McGywer when you need him most??

oops, very tricky! the vacuum thing is not strong enough, there is a kind of spring inside the hole, which holds the plug very tight.

the superglue idea is nice - but very tricky to handle: don't glue your PB!!!!

any chance to open it and get to the connector from the inside? 'cause, if so, you can push out the piece from that side… ???

If you're going to go the superglue route, i wouldn't use a toothpick. You don't want to get superglue inside the socket.

When the plug broke, was it a clean break? I would think the best way to do this would be to use the broken end that you have and see if it fits well against the broken end in the socket (it should) then put a small (very, very small) amount of superglue onto the broken end that you have (just enough to wet it slightly) then hold it firmly against the broken end in the socket. After about 20 seconds, pull straight out (don't twist or turn) and see if you can do it that way.

Otherwise, you're going to be taking the cover off.

Good luck,

J.

Try what Freeflyer said, only with JB Weld instead of superglue. Or you could try an Easy-Out if they make them that small.

Or take it in to the hardware store and see what they say.

You guys have gave me a serious dose of optimism! Indeed McGuyver, lol! I was really worried at first but the reconnecting phone plug with GB or Super Glue is a fantastic idea and bound to work ; ).

If it doesn't work than I'll take it in to a hardware store, hopefully they'll butter up that baby and pop her out.

Thanks again fellas and happy holidays! I'll keep you posted on the follow up (fingers crossed!)
