Came across ADS Tech's new Pyro DV Drive (http://www.adstech.com/products/API_...asp?pid=API820) And was wondering if anyone knows the specs on it? There specs seem to be really skimpy, meaing they don't really say how it operates. It mentions, "Easy, one button capture to harddrive" Does that mean I don't have to connnect it to a laptop, and that i can forget about carrying tape? That would be great for me as my camera heads are busted and the fact that I wouldn't have to capture after shooting is great. But something tells me that it isn't as simple as 'hooking it up to my trv-900 and pushing record on the DV Drive.

Has anyone had any experience with this product? Thanks for any information.

I'm gonna answer my own question a bit...

Found info on BHPhotoVideo site that says:

Key Features -

• Simple One-Button Operation
The PYRO DV Drive personifies ease-of-use. By pressing a single button, the drive will record the video directly from your camera.

•_Capture Video While You Record
Not only does this drive capture digital video directly from your tape, you can also capture videowhile you're recording! Simply press the record button, and you're ready to go.

•_Reliable Power
The built-in lithium battery provides two-hours of uninterupted capturing time. Great for use in the field!

-----

So knowing that. For my purposes I would need to know if the recording happens at the same time, directly - meaning does the drive record the image recorded off the tape or does it go directly to harddrive? (ie. can i not have a tape in the camera, have the camera ejected so it doesn't shut off, and just record? Again my record heads are busted but the singnal still goes throught the camera. I could get this fixed BUT it is a pain in the A$$ to do this. As it is under warranty. It is the warranty and where to fix it that is a pain.

With the Pyro DV Drive this might be the better solution until I can get a new camera. PLUS I don't have to capture.

Any othere solutions besides this set-up?

thanks again.
