When I import a high-quality clip I edited from After Effects into iMovie, iMovie COMPLETELY ruins the clip by giving the clip horrid quality. Trying out FCP to do the same thing, I don't get differnt results.

My question is, how can I import something and keep the quality the same?

the quality you do see in iMovie is NOT the quality which will be on tape/or dvd after export!

iMovie has a very low "preview" quality, which makes sense, because it is meant as a hobbyist tool who don't want to botehr with rednering and stuff like that.-

if you do use after effects (what a combination: AE, a pro compositing tool and iMovie, a single layer "cutter" ), it shouldn't be problem for you, to make a test: import your ae file into iMovie, do somehting inside and make a test-dvd (or export onto dv-tape) to watch it on tv…-

btw: in what format you EXPORT from AE?

Actually, I made a DVD and the quality is much better. However, I was thrown off when I made a QT video (Full Quality DV) and it still had quality problems. As far as AE goes, I export to DV, and it looks nice.
