Hello all,
I have a desktop running Windows XP. For christmas I was considering a 12" Powerbook with the SuperDrive. After networking and file sharing are set up, I plan to transfer my home movies to the Mac and burn them on DVD.
My question is after burning onto DVD, will I be able to pop the DVD into my PC and view the files? My movies are all in Windows Media format. If this isn't possible, what's the easiest way to accomplish this?
Thanks in advance.

It may be difficult to convert out of windows media format at high quality. In order to burn a DVD, you have to make them mpeg-2.
1. If you can convert them, then a DVD that you create on the mac should be playable on your PC or DVD player.
2. It may be best for you to convert them to DV, mjpeg, or mpeg-2 on your PC, then transfer. But I don't know what PC software is out there.

This is indeed possible, but requires a lot of work - which in my opinion is not worth it. There is no easy way to trasncode WMP files to MPEG2 - and the ways that do work require you to purchse some screen capture software to get the image and use audio capture software to get the audio. You will then have to manually sync these files in FCP or iMovie.... I doubt you want to go to all that trouble.
Sorry.
