WMP 9 can't play .wmv -- is this some kind of joke?

I've tried WMP 7 and 9 and get the dialog box

The specified stream type is not recognized

This is a Windows Media Player -- you'd think it would play a .wmv with no problem -- anyone else have this problem -- any fix?

OK - solved

managed to get a download of the file via Safari and it worked in WMP 9.
