How long until MS ripsoff GarageBand?

1. How long?
2. What will they name it?

I realize there are already products similar to GarageBand and Apple didn't just invent it this type of software. But Microsoft’s just has to be in every market segment.

Here are my guesses:

1. 1 year
2. Microsoft MusicMaker XP 2004 (yes I know it will be 2005 by then but it hasn’t stop them before.)

Perhaps Apple should design a tinfoil hat to prevent everyone from ripping it off ...

and they will justify it by saying that people want choices in their music composition software!

Absolutely. The name will be Microsoft Music Maker.

There's already Music Maker software, I believe. It's for the Xbox, though. But I'm sure it could be ported to the PC since the architecture's so similar. It's not close to what GarageBand does, though. Considering how poor Windows Movie Maker is compared to FCE and even iMovie, I wouldn't much worry about it. At least not from Microsoft. Sonic Foundry's (Well.. now Sony's ) Acid is somewhat similar to GB, but more to Soundtrack..
