So I used osex and mac3 decoder to rip my led zep dvd. I'm getting some crackle in the resulting files. Anyone else with similar problems?

Sorry, been busy. I'll try this weekend and get back. What's the difference? I pretty much ripped and converted to AIFF.

I did preview one with A.pack and it was OK.

you don't know if the problem is in the final (aiff/mp3/mov) files, the ripped ac3 files, the ac3 source files on the DVD, all or none of the above. You first need to narrow that down. So go back up the chain one step and see if the problem is already there. To do this, you decode the ripped ac3 files with something besides macAC3Decoder; something like VLC, ffmpeg, MEncoder, bd4go or Apple's DVD Player. VLC is the easiest.
