Is that 49 key m-audio $99 keyboard any good for a total complete music novice?

Could you actually learn to play piano on it? If not how about just to have some fun with garageband?

Mostly just want to have some fun, but if I get so inclined could I at least start to learn piano on it?

Thanks for any input!!

It's probably a little short to learn piano on properly, but it would definitely do to goof around in GBand. (Huzzah for MIDI drums) You might think it more worth your while to get a fuller-size keyboard that has a MIDI interface if you're serious about learning. Could save you buying another keyboard two months down the road.

and get one with weighted keys, too. real pianos feel vastly different than keyboards without weight. it's actually physically difficult to play (since the feel makes one think about playing rather than playing without thought, ooh) when one is used to one or the other, and chances are you'll play on a real piano some day.

I was thinking the same thing. How much money are we talking for a descent MIDI one with weighted keys? Any certain brands/sites to reccomend?
I don't need no stinkin' signature!
