does anyone know if imoive works with digital cameras such as the canon ixus 400 that only let you make short movies of about 3 minutes?

iMovie use the DV format. Most digital camera that capture video, capture at a very low resolution. You need to copy the file off the camera then import into iMovie which will convert the file to the DV format.
