I just saw this box on MacNN
http://www.edirol.com/products/info/fa101.html

What kind of software can use it? Would Pro Tools recognize it?

i believe all of these products use the native Core Audio drivers, and are thus available to all apps. some hardware-specific apps for other companies might not work. i use a USB Audio Device that operates on similar principles, and it just shows up as another input/output option in all of the standard places one can select those.

I don't beleive this is the case with DigiDesign. You can only use PT with Digi interfaces.

Pretty much anything but Pro Tools.
All of iLife, Tracktion, Logic, Cubase SX, Nuendo, DP4, etc.
Check out http://www.osxaudio.com/ for lots of Audio info.
