So I am Ass. Sound for the a theatre production of Les Mis. Problem is that we need to be able to layer music and sound effects together for the show. We have a P4 2.0Ghz in the booth but the PC has a tendency to crash, a lot.
So Ryan (Head Sound) gave me his old pismo to work with. Now I know it's no P4 but at least it's a lot more stable. it's 400 mhz with a 10gb HD and 512mb of ram.
So I need an app like GB in order to complete my job. But then I found out it requires something a lot better than pismo. So I wanted to ask if there is something out there (software) that will get me at least 6-8 audio tracks and work "nicely" on the pismo.

Are you running OS 9 or OS X on the Pismo?

I know there used to be a demo version of Pro Tools for OS 9, but I don't think there's one for OS X.

Final Cut Pro version 1 or 2 would work as well w/o taxing the resources too greatly; I think ver. 3 was the first OS X-only version.

No. Version 3 was still 9 compatible.

ProTools Free is indeed still available from digi's website. Honestly, on that machine, you should be running 9. PT Free is 8 tracks.

We have decided that it will run OS X. Now we are debating on which os is the best.

Now my job is to dig up a version of FCP 3 without having to download it. : )

here's the progress of the show so far in pictures.
