Everything I've seen indicates that the two do work together, but I'd just like to confirm: does Final Cut Pro interface with DVC pro decks well? Would, for some decks, I need any additional hardware or software to input media from a DVC pro deck? Thanks for your time.

You might want a fast disk array, but FCP is a pro with DVC...pro...heh

I use DVCAM which from what I understand is similar to DVC Pro. As long as the deck has firewire it should work just fine with Final Cut Pro. Some of the higher end decks require that you buy an IEEE1394 (firewire) card to insert into the back.

At school, we have a bunch of cheaper DVC decks and they all have problems, so make sure your deck is working properly.

DVCPRO is the same data rate as regular DV.

There is a variant of it called DV50 though, which is twice the data rate and offers 4:2:2 chroma sampling. It's said to be comparable to DigiBeta.

I am positive that DVCPRO works with FCP - I am just finishing work on a DVCPRO50 project in FCP and it works out of the box!

- and we just regular 7200rpm 8MB cache drives, no need for an array (although I would surely welcome it!)

DVCPRO50 still only offers 4:1:1 color sampling.

No, DVCPRO is 4:1:1. DVCPRO50 is 4:2:2.
