I've been spending hours trying to find out the best way to get a FCX project exported to MPEG-2, and there doesn't appear to be any way to do it directly (without getting FCP). I have ffmpegX, and I could get other MPEG-2 encoding apps, but having to export from FCX first, what would be the best option to choose to not loose to much video/audio quality (NO compression would result in a file a bit larger than I care to handle)?

I would say DV, but MotionJPEG also seems to be a popular choice. just keep in mind that if your source is DV then it's probably interlaced, and you want to keep it in a codec that has proper interlacing support (DV does, MotionJPEG might but I don't know). You want to test it with a small sample first, because ffmpeg may or may not properly support reading any particular codec of mov file
