on the idvd support page, it states that idvd 4 is compatable with most file types supported by quicktime (ex. avi, mpeg, mov), yet when i try to place one of these files in an idvd project it says the file type is not compatable. when i try and export the avi and mpeg files in quicktime pro to dv (or anything else for that matter) it removes the sound. i have been trying for weeks to figure this out. if someone has any idea why this isnt working or how i can export my mpeg's and avi's without losing sound it would be a godsend.

we DO need a FAQ in this forum

mpgs you mentioned are socalled muxxed: the audio and the video is "weaved" together... qt pro is able to playback these files, but NOT able to convert it; trying to export them gives you the video but not sound...-

what you have to do:
get bbdemux at versiontracker.
place your .mpg file on it.
you get two files: an .m1a and a m1v.
open both in qtpro.
mark the whole audio file.
copy it.
switch over to the .m1v file
place it "trimmed".
export the new file in any standard you want (best but biggest is .dv stream)

you aint able to copy the sound/.m1a file?
you need the madplayer (vt)
place th e.m1a on it.
export the sound as aiff.
open the file with qtpro, copy, trimmed, jabbajabba

.avi? oh, oh, BIG problem!!
avi is NOT a format, it is just a "container" as quicktime/mov.
behind a .avi could be many formats, in windows they have very "interesting" mpg variations...

try the methods mentioned above or ask someone who is wise...

enjoy your por... your movies

anyway, thanks for the tip. Even when I don't have specific questions or issues, I read the threads to learn something new almost daily.
