I have looked on the Canon website and do not see the Elura 50 listed as being compatible with iMovie3. I also could not find any reference on the Apple site. When I plug my Elura 50 into my PowerMac G4, iMovie says it does not recognize the camera. Can anyone give me an idea of when (if?) the Elura 50 will be made compatible or is there some other place I can find a download to make them work?

Sorry about the dumb question, but do you have the camera set to VCR (/VTR/Play) mode? I can't believe that the Elura50 won't export to iMovie when my 4 year old Canon ZR-10 will.
Don't go by Apple's site; it's about a year behind with camera models.

Thanks for your reply, it was not a dumb question, but I do have it switched to "Play/VCR" mode when I run iMovie 3. The program actually reads "No Camera Connected". The Canon website lists compatibility with Elura and Elura 40, there is no mention of Elura 50. I would have thought that these things would have backward compatibility, which leads me to believe that the solution is something simple that I am missing, but I just went back through the tutorial... But thanks for your help.

I am using a 4 to 6 pin firewire cable. I just got it at Best
Buy, so have not used it previously and don't have any other Firewire peripherals to connect to see if it might be the cable not working. Thanks for your help, I think I may try another manufacturer's cable just in case.

I have the Elura 50, and it works just fine with IMOVIE and with Final cut pro and express. There is a mild issue with capturing when you are using the elura 50 as a means to transfer directly from the tv or source, directly to the computer as opposed to taping it, and then transfering it, but it can be done, just requires a few different settings

What kind of firewire cable do you use?

The firewire cable I use is just a typical cable from Best Buy. Normal firewire connection on the computer end, and then one of the small firewire connections for the camera end. I know this is a bit vague, but there is only one type of firewire port on the new Powerbooks, and there is only one type of firewire connection on the camera, so I bought the standard cable for this.
As said before, my camera is found just fine, and is controllable from within Final Cut Pro 4 (and Express 2), and just needs a few configurations to get it to work fine as an analog to digital transfer system.
