FCE-scratch disk question

i just hooked up (via firewire) Lacie 160 external HD. I set the scratch disk settings for data to go to external HD. Works fine except everytime I open FCE it tells me my external HD is offline (even though its not) and I have to reset the scratch disk again. This is annoying, I dont think I should have set the scratch disk settings everytime i open the application. can anyone help???/

try trashing your prefs.
