ACC to MP3... what bit rate?

I am looking for the best settings to convert AAC files to MP3 so that I can listen on a CD player with MP3 playback. I have been burning my AAC files as AIFF to standard CD format then importing the CD's AIFF files as MP3. I know the copy will only be as good as the original. Supposedly AAC format is better than MP3 at the same bit rate. So when I burn my 128 AAC file to AIFF then convert it to MP3 should the bit rate be 128 or higher? Will all this compression and reformatting loose more data (sound quality)?

AAC, not ACC.

The AIFF should sound just like the original AAC, but that is not to say that it sounds like the original CD.

You are still compressing a compressed file. No matter what, you will lose quality. Your best bet is to re-rip from the original CD. If you can't, then the next best thing is to keep your MP3 bitrate is high as practical, thereby minimizing the compression artifacts.
