I'm going to drive 2400 miles in a moving truck from Silicon Valley to Bloomington, Indiana in a little less than a month and thought it would be cool if I could mount my Sony DV Cam to the dash and have it take pics along the way every so often. When played back we could have the whole trip in a few minutes. What software would I need to do this? I've seen people do it with webcams before. I guess I'd also need to power the unit and my PowerBook for the whole time, so a DC to AC inverter would be needed, though I've had some trouble in the past with those blowing circuits. Thanks for any thoughts!

i wouldn't use a camcorder for such a project.
a dv camcorder has no "real" 4 fps or such like a filmcamera has... you can film with 25/30fps or you can shoot "stills" which will be recorded as 10sec clips on tape/or as pics on a memorystick etc.-
maybe, you should make some calculation: what is the estimate realtime? and what length do you want your final movie? just for powersuply reasons i wouldn't run a camcorder the whole time...-
you can pull a whole bunch of stills on iMovie and it will make "automatically" a movie out of it.-
so, i would use a usb webcam with your powerbook plus a prg like evocam, which is able to record every xxx sec a pic (and name it and file it).
most important for the final result: the camera has to be in the same position the whole time - still as possibile! glue it, tape it, concrete it ;-)

You could check this software for Time Lapse. It's around 40$. Just makes sure you're camera doesn't shut down every 5 minutes. A lot of camera do this to save battery. And yes a DC to AC converter is a good thing. I bought one for about 30$.

Thanks! This is good because I don't want to incur more cost. I have all the equipment to do this as is if I get that software. BTW, most cameras won't turn off if you take out the tape.

EvoCam will do this. And it's only $20.
