All: I'm new to the digital editing process and beg your forbearance with these questions. I've tried searching for answers to no avail and thought I'd post and see if you folks could help me.

I used MactheRipper to rip the movie Cinema Paradiso. The process was successful and I'm able to use OSX's DVD player to watch the movie. However, I'd like to burn this to a DVD and keep it as a back up (I use the film in class and own the original copy, fyi).

Can anyone either give me some simple steps to accomplish this task, or at least point me in the right direction for the information? The size of the rip, incidentally, is 6.75 GB.

Thanks in advance.

Using the "Search" link above, search the Software forum for "DVD copying" or "DVD duplication" or "DVD copy".

I did the latter and got 121 matching topics.

I didn't look at the individual threads, but these look like they might be helpful:

Basically, you need to reduce the size of the ripped and decrypted movie to 4.4 GB, to be able to burn it on a single DVD. There's several programs that do this, DVD2oneX (which I use, but which now costs money), and others I can't say much about. Check the links above for discussion and info, or do a search.

Sigh. I mentioned in my post that I've done a search already and haven't come up with a sufficient answer to my question.

*sigh*

While I didn't notice that you'd done a search (and you don't mention in which forum you searched), which aspect of mentioning that you need to reduce the size of your VIDEO_TS folder to 4.4 GB using a program such as DVD2oneX is insufficient to get you started? You can find the software at www.macupdate.com .

You can then burn that VIDEO_TS folder to a DVD-R using Roxio's Toast.

That's it.

Am I missing some hidden aspect of your question?

Also, in the first thread I linked to:
posted by jamerican:
Go to DVDRHelp.com and look under the tutorials for Galactica's primer on how to copy a dvd to a dvd-r on a mac. That is the best way to learn.

Also, currently on the front page of the MacNN Software forum:

Copying DVD movies

Fairly comprehensive.

Thanks. My (sigh) wasn't meant for you and I apologize because it seems that way. The <sigh> was more an indication of being frustrated in trying to find the information. Thanks for the help, by the way.

By the way, Spheric--I took your advice:

MactheRipper
DVD2One
Toast

Worked like a charm!
