Hello all.

I am interested in learning more about high-quality DVD burning. A friend of mine has a film that they would like to sell over the web. How much would a really good quality DVD burner cost? Would we make one master copy and then need to duplicate that copy?...or could we have the film on a computer's HD and burn copies from the computer directly to the DVD disc?

I should mention....we're looking for a DVD burner that will burn DVDs to play on nearly all DVD players (NTSC Format). Basically, we'd like our customers to consider our DVDs to be the quality of the big movies distributors.

Also, please let me know if there are any good tutorials or web sites on this information.

Thanks in advance for any info.

-Ben

A quick google search for DVD Duplicator found this as a sponsored link (scroll down to the dvd burners). Make sure you use DVD-R media as that is much more likely to work in a standalone player. Also look into buying media that can be printed to directly instead of printing stickers. Of course burn one disk and test it in as many players as you can to make sure it works.

You mention good quality burner . . . as far as I know any drive made by Pioneer, Lite_On, Plextor, etc. all make good drives. I have a an old Pioneer 104 and have never burned a cd/dvd coaster with it. Likewise I have a lite-on cdrw that has burned hundreds of disks with no issues.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the ideas.

I found a Panasonic DMR-T3040 dvd burner for about $900.

I imagine that with a $900 price-tag, and reviews have called it professional, that it somehow produces a high quality dvd. Does this high-quality match or come close ot that of a product that you get if you pay $10k to some company to make a master copy and then make multiple copies?

Thanks for any info.

The Panasonic recorder you found is just an external DVD recorder that works like a VCR it is no higher quality than what you would get from an internal DVD burner from Pioneer, except it will not have a nice menu when you use that burner. What really applies to this is the difference between DVD duplication and replication. DVD duplication is what you would do with that recorder or with your computer. DVD replication is what is used on commercial and is more compatible with DVD players. I suggest have replication done by a company for best results. A quick search turned up this site http://princetondisc.com/DVD-package-promo.html For $1690 you get 1000 replicated DVDs with full color printing, cases with inserts, and it is shrink wrapped. That seems like a good deal to me.
