i have several dv tapes with 15 - 30 mins of footage on them. i want to put them onto single tapes.

in other words i want to fill up my tapes so i have a few FULL tapes instead of many half filled dv tapes.

is there any easy way to do this?

also, does iMovie's IMPORT function retain the FULL quality of the dv tapes?

thanks.

1. Import one hour of footage into iMovie

2. Compile it into one movie (put it all on the same timeline).

3. Output the movie back to tape.

Yes. The DV file you import is the same digital data stored on the tape. So long as you don't do anything to your footage which needs rendering, the data you transfer back to tape will be the same. So it's perfectly viable to compile your shorter bits of footage onto single tapes for archiving.

One thing to bear in mind: if a tape has had heavy usage, it could be prone to drop-outs, which could affect your video. If you are re-using your tapes for archiving, try and use the ones that have had the least wear.
