Hey guys

I know this topic has been a little done to death and I have searched the forums and found some useful tips but was wondering if someone can help me with my specific request.
I’m still getting to grips with Macs and the software after a life time with PC. On the PC I would import clips from my DV cam to Premiere/Studio 9 or whatever and then after editing would use Windows Media Encoder to encode the clip. Often setting a slightly smaller resolution and getting a good file size/quality ratio.
Now I’m importing clips into iMovie and then editing. It took me a while but I worked out that share means encode heh :o) So I’ve got a long list of dfferent methods. Whats the best codec to download (maybe already there?). I’ve seen people mention 3ivx and divx (which I’ve used on the PC). If I download these codecs and install them, will they appear in the list when I go to share and expert settings in iMovie?

Sorry again for maybe churning up old issues…

Cheers for any help..

Floyd

Yes. On the mac, QuickTime is king for integration stuff. Basically, you install a QuickTime component (like a codec or a file format importer) and it will automagically give the same capability to (nearly) all other multimedia apps. 3ivx Divx and the like, as QuickTime components, are available to any video (or audio if it applies, like the vorbis component) app you'll see on your mac (except the QuickTime-phobic open source projects like VLC and MPlayer)

Hi,

Another quick question. I'm encoding a movie from my dv cam using iMovies.. encoding using divx.. things is the option to resize vid is grayed out and it only encodes to 720 x 480.. where as i would rather encode to maybe 640 x 480 or maybe smaller..
Why isnt it allowing me to do this?

Cheers for any help you can give me!

I think DivX only lets you do that if you pay for the pro version. Try exporting to QT Movie with the 3ivx codec instead. The QT Movie exporter (with any codec) will let you resize to any size.
