Motion seems to be relying heavily on «Core video» for it's many real time effects. Could they wait 'till the release of Tiger?

No...somehow Apple has enscapsulated the features of Core Video into Motion without a need for the API. What will happen when Tiger ships is that the next version of Motion will be able to use new Video Units that you load into the system.

You're probably right, both demos of Motion I saw (at NAB and at a Canadian Apple Event) were running on Panther. I should have tought about this. So I guess the late summer release they anounced is probably right.
