I have 2 HI-8 cassettes of video that I would like to convert to digital format. Any suggestions on a cheap cassette reader that would feed the video into a AL PB so I could work on it in iMovie ? Sorry but I tried to do a search and of course was limited by the minimum 3 letter rule.

Ummm...good luck on that one. We looked around for something similar here and found that the cheapest option is to just purcase a Digital 8 camcorder, which is not exactly a cheap option and and as far as I know a Sony only option. This is assuming you don't already have some kind of digitizer.

Might be better to try and borrow one from someone.

If you don't need to convert more than just the two cassettes, you might check out http://www.digitaltransfersystems.net/

i had good success with them converting some old 8mm movie film to digital...I'm sure they also can convert Hi-8 cassettes.

If you already have a hi8 camcorder then simply hook it up to a miniDV camcorder with analog pass through capabilities to digitize to your PB.

If you don't have a Hi8 camcorder or a miniDV then your most hassel free method is probably to just use a film/video transfer service.
