What's the deal with Mac and minidisc recordings?

Ok, I am thinking of buying a Sharp MD player/recorder, and want to know whether I can indeed do field recordings, and my own music lessons and upload. Am I to understand that I can upload to my Mac G5, but only analog, not digital??

Also, what about downloading music to the recorder from my Mac... it can be done, right?
Easily?

I'd buy an iPod, but it's not ready for good music recording, even with the iTalk...

You got it. You can transfer digitally if you have a deck with and optical output. But only in realtime. You cannot use the USB (even on PCs the NetMD is one-way) for this.

AFAIK, there is no software for transferring songs to the MD from a Mac using USB faster than realtime. PC only. You can do it in realtime, either using an analog or digital patch (if you MD is capable.)
